Whist became popular in England during the 16th century, when it evolved from the earlier game of Triumph.
At first the game was confined to the lower class and widely played in coffee houses, but following Edmond Hoyles Short Treatise on the Game of Whist in 1741, the game was introduced into the upper fashionable society.
During the 18th and 19th century, the game spread to other European countries. Whist evolved to the game of Bridge.
Whist is a game played by 4 players, in 2 partnerships. In this App, you (the south player) will be playing with the North player, against the East/West team. A standard deck of 52 cards is dealt out. The goal is to win 7 tricks to win the hand.
A skillful Whist player works collaboratively with the partner, remembers which cards have been played and then play the hand against the position of the remaining cards.
